Chelsea have held a meeting with the representatives of the Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia in the interest of Mikel Arteta from Arsenal.
That’s according to Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri.who claims that Lavia is now the subject of ‘intense’ interest from Chelsea.
It is claimed that Chelsea ‘want to speed up’ their move through Lavia before the summer window.
A meeting with Lavia representatives in Belgium has allegedly been held over the past week.
This aligns with talkSPORTThe claim that Chelsea are increasing their interest in signing Lavia.
Arsenal are also interested in Romeo Lavia
Chelsea are far from alone in the race for Lavia. That may well be why they are so interested in speeding up their move right now.
The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Arsenal and Manchester United were interested in signing Lavia.
Both clubs are in the midfield market this summer and have been linked to Declan Rice.
Lavia can be seen as an alternate target this summer as he has shown some real promise for Southampton.
Mikel Arteta’s mentor, Pep Guardiola, was a big fan of Lavia at Manchester City; maybe the Arsenal boss thinks he can fit in with the Gunners.
Chelsea can win this race, just like Mykhailo Mudryk
Arsenal may well be interested, but it looks like Chelsea are the clear favorites to sign Lavia.
Chelsea tried to sign Lavia from Southampton just weeks after he joined last summer, offering a big deal that Southampton turned down.
Recruiting boss Joe Shields left Manchester City for Southampton, taking Lavia with him last summer.
Shields has now moved to Chelsea and it makes perfect sense that the Blues are now pushing for Lavia again.
Hailed as a ‘very special’ player by Jadon SanchoLavia has shown great potential at just 19 and could join Enzo Fernández in Chelsea’s midfield.
The Blues beat Arsenal with the signing of Mykhailo Mudryk in January and it’s starting to look like they could do the same with Lavia.
In other news, Newcastle have told Allan Saint-Maximin he “didn’t work hard enough” at Nottingham Forest.
