Moustapha Sylla, Ivorian footballer, dies at 21


Ivory Coast soccer player Moustapha Sylla died at the age of 21 after a heart attack during a match in Abidjan on Sunday.

The defender collapsed during the match between Racing Club Abidjan and SOL FC at the Robert Champroux stadium in Abidjan.

Video showed the left-back losing his balance and falling to the ground near the center circle before opposition players rushed to help him.

The officials decided to continue with the match in the Ivory Coast top flight after Sylla was carried off the field.

Unfortunately, ‘Moustapha Sylla didn’t make it, as he died on Sunday night following illness on the pitch during the match with Sol F.

The president of the Ivorian club, Logossina Cissé, told AFP:

“Sylla passed away during transport to the hospital. She had arrived in September and was only 21 years old.

RC Abidjan wrote on his Twitter account

“Our defender Sylla Moustapha died tonight after illness in the field. * Management sends her sincere condolences to her family. Rest in peace Moustafa. Rest in peace LEON!”

According to the club, Sylla’s funeral would be held on Monday at the municipal cemetery in Dabou, Ivory Coast. Sylla joined RC Abidjan last September from Mali’s Djoliba AC.
