Craig Burley has backed Newcastle United to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City during the summer transfer window.
The Scotland international believes that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle should look to improve their midfield in the summer.
If they can’t get West Ham United captain Declan Rice, then Kalvin Phillips, who has “barely played” for Pep Guardiola this season, should be a target, according to the former Chelsea man.
The England international left his boyhood club Leeds in the summer, securing a £42m transfer.(Sky Sports) to the Premier League champions.
But injuries, and the fact that he has someone called Rodri playing in front of him, have meant that the 27-year-old has only played 102 minutes of Premier League football.
For Craig Burley, that’s another reason the Magpies want to sign Phillips. as he told ESPN.
On who Newcastle should sign: “Maybe a Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City, if they’re prepared to let him go,” Burley said. “He has barely played.”

PHILLIPS NEEDS TO LEAVE MAN CITY
The problem with the former Leeds player is that he is not going to be used in any role other than defensive midfield.
Given that Rodri is perhaps the best in the world in that position and plays every game possible, then at best it will be minutes off the bench for ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’.
And if Phillips wants to keep his place in England, then he has to leave in the summer, or he will just continue to warm the bank and lose his place at Euro 2024.
