Loons sign backup goaltender Clint Irwin to a two-year deal

Minnesota United has found its backup goalkeeper.

The Loons have signed veteran Clint Irwin to a two-year contact with a club option for 2025, the club announced on Tuesday.

Irwin, 33, has been a member of the Colorado Rapids for three seasons, with a total of 16 games played, but only one in 2021.

MNUFC couldn’t trade backup Tyler Miller last year and had to find depth for Dayne St. Clair. Miller, who earned $445,938 in 2021, signed with DC United in November.

Irwin will be on the Loons’ senior roster and earned $213,300 last season. His new salary is not yet known, but is considered a “budget-friendly acquisition,” a source told the Pioneer Press.
