‘It’s not going to work’: Pundit claims Chelsea-informed managerial target Mauricio Pochettino will fail at London club


TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara reckons Mauricio Pochettino will fail at Chelsea, just as he did for Tottenham Hotspur.

Pochettino is getting closer to becoming Graham Potter’s permanent successor at Stamford Bridge. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says talks between the Blues and the Argentine are in the final stage.

The former Tottenham and psg he will become Chelsea’s third permanent manager since Todd Boehly became part-owner in May 2022. His appointment of Potter was a disaster and O’Hara does not believe Pochettino will succeed.

The former Spurs midfielder began his assessment of Pochettino becoming the new Blues boss with exasperation:

Don’t even get me started. You have Pochettino coming in. That’s not going to work.”

O’Hara went on to say that Pochettino is made for tottenham. The Argentine coached the Lilywhites from 2014 until 2019. He led the North Londoners to the 2019 UEFA Champions League final.

“It will not work. It will not work. It was made for Tottenham.”

Spurs are searching for their next permanent manager after sacking Antonio Conte in March. O’Hara believes that Pochettino has unfinished business with his former club:

“No, there are unfinished business. The only reason he’s not going back there is because Daniel Levy is a jerk, and he doesn’t want to go back to the old ground because they had a fight when he left.”

Pochettino’s anticipated appointment in chelsea he has received criticism due to his previous loyalties to the Spurs.

O’Hara has compared the expected arrival of the Argentine at Stamford Bridge with Rafael Benítez’s appointment at Everton. The Spanish manager was a huge success at cross-town rivals Liverpool and his reign at Goodison Park ended in tumult:

“It’s the same as Rafa Benítez going to Everton, I tell you, it’s exactly the same.”

Speculation continues to grow about the future of Harry Kane and a possible departure from Tottenham is being touted. manchester united they are admirers from the England captain, who has scored 26 goals in 43 inter-competition games.

However, former Spurs striker Bent suggested that Pochettino could try to lure Kane to Chelsea should he be appointed, telling talkSPORT:

Kane starred for Spurs under Pochettino during the latter’s reign at the north London club, scoring 169 goals in 242 appearances.

Whether Kane will be tempted to move to Stamford Bridge remains to be seen, but he holds Pochettino in high regard. He left his former coach a heartfelt message on social media when the Argentine was sacked by Spurs in 2019:

“We have had some incredible moments in the last 5 and a half years that I will never forget. You were my manager but also my friend, and I thank you for that relationship. Good luck with your next chapter!”
