Instant Breakdown: Miami Dolphins 30, Houston Texans 15

Quick thoughts from the South Florida Sun Sentinel staff on the Miami Dolphins’ win over the Houston Texans at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday:

Dave Hyde, sports columnist

A laugh, a blast, the kind of game a good Dolphins team could have enjoyed turned into something worrying when left tackle Terron Armstead left the game late in the first half against Houston. How serious is his pectoral injury? With three road games against good pass rushes, the Dolphins’ high hopes could hinge on his return.

Chris Perkins, Dolphins Columnist

It was a costly win considering the Dolphins lost left tackle Terron Armstead to a pectoral injury. But it was nice to see the offense humming along. The 30-point first half was good, and the two turnovers by the defense were good. Yes, Houston scored, but we were all bored by then.

David Furones, Dolphin Writer

What looked to be a more dominant effort than Miami’s 39-17 win over Cleveland two weeks ago took a turn for the worse in the second half. Terron Armstead’s early exit didn’t allow Miami to protect the quarterback, and the defense, after limiting Houston to 32 yards in the first half, began to give up big plays. The Texans nearly made it a game late, but the Dolphins are in first place in the AFC East at 8-3 and on a five-game winning streak. It’s a concern now, though, if Armstead has to miss a key period in the schedule ahead.

The Dolphins offense continued to run like a well-oiled machine in what could have been a key trap game situation, coming off a bye week to play the worst team in the NFL with a long way to go a deck competitor. Let’s hope Terron Armstead’s injury doesn’t linger, as the pass protection he had against the Jets and Vikings disintegrated after his exit.

Steve Svekis, Senior Sports Content Editor

The Dolphins have handled the middle of the schedule as they should, with an unblemished 5-0 record. Now, the December chill is in the air, but the Dolphins need only a 3-3 finish for the franchise’s best season record since 2008 and a 4-2 mark for their best mark in 32 years. Two more wins would surely clinch a playoff spot. They absolutely need Terron Armstead at left tackle the last six weeks.
