The former military head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has called on Nigerians to accept in good faith the result of the elections for the governorship and houses of assembly, as long as it is considered free and fair.
Abdulsalami made the appeal while speaking to reporters shortly after casting his ballot at his Uphill polling unit in Minna.
The elderly statesman who arrived at 12:33 p.m. accompanied by his son Isah Abubakar and some of his aides said the election had gone smoothly according to the reports he collected, adding that the people should accept the result if it complies with the minimum standard of credibility. .
The Chairman of the Peace Committee noted: “So far, from what I have seen, everything is running smoothly. They had me in a minute. I hope everything goes smoothly.”

The elder statesman on voter turnout explained that he hasn’t toured the city to find out where things really stand, saying: “I can’t comment on the issue of voter apathy because I haven’t toured, but this should be expected because sometimes people get tired of voting”
In addition, the Governor of the State of Niger, Sani Bello, together with his wife, Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello, cast their ballots at the Mustapha Alkali Voting Unit, Kontagora, and congratulated the voters for exercising their right to vote.
“It has never been so easy in previous elections. The process is very smooth, the participation is not so bad. Voters must vote in peace,” she said.
