Governor Adeleke replaces fired APC LG chairmen with civil servants

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun has ordered career heads of local government areas (LGAs) and area council development areas (ACDAs) to take over their councils from sacked council presidents and councillors. .

The directive is contained in a statement issued by Adeleke’s spokesman, Olawale Rasheed.

The directive went into effect immediately.

“Governor Adeleke has also ordered the most senior career heads from all areas of local government to take over their councils,” the statement said. “This complies with the ruling of the Osogbo-based Federal High Court that dismissed the council of chairpersons and local government councillors.”

On Friday, Judge Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel of the Osogbo Division of the Federal High Court declared the local government elections conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission null and void.

Mr. Ayo-Emmanuel delivered the ruling based on a PDP lawsuit, asking the court to stop OSIEC from holding the October 15 local government elections in Osun.

The judge ruled that the election of the council carried out by the OSIEC contravened articles 29 and 32 of the Electoral Law of 2022.

Reacting to the ruling, the president of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Osun, Abiodun Idowu, called on its members to remain calm and peaceful.

Mr. Idowu said that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and all the presidents of the 69 LGA, ACDA had filed a ‘Notice of Appeal and Stay of Execution’ against the ruling.
