Hunter Biden’s lawyers met with Justice Department officials Wednesday to discuss the lengthy criminal investigation into the president’s son.
Hunter Biden’s attorney, Chris Clark, along with several other lawyers, were seen by CNN heading to the Justice Department headquarters early Wednesday. When contacted later, Clark declined to comment.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Justice Department’s tax division and the Delaware US attorney’s office, according to a person familiar with the meeting. The tax division is headed by a career Justice Department attorney as there is no Senate-confirmed appointee yet.
David Weiss, the Trump-appointed federal prosecutor for Delaware, has been overseeing the investigation into Hunter Biden.
Hunter Biden’s legal team had reached out to Justice officials in recent weeks, requesting an update on the case, according to a source familiar with the meeting.
After prosecutors narrowed down the potential charges Hunter Biden could face last year, there has been no public news. According to sources familiar with the investigation, prosecutors are still weighing whether to file two misdemeanor charges for failing to file taxes, one count of tax evasion related to overreporting expenses and one count of false declaration regarding the purchase of a gun.
CNN has reached out to the Justice Department for comment.
