The Conference of United Political Parties, CUPP, has raised the alarm about an alleged plot to swap the results of already declared voting units in Enugu state.
Our correspondent reports that the collection of voting unit results is ongoing as voting has ended in the gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections held on Saturday.
In a statement made available to journalists, CUPP Enugu State Chairman Festus Okafor said there were credible reports that some agents of the ruling political party were trying to smuggle in false score sheets.
He said: “We are raising the alarm because the people of Enugu will not accept anything different from the results we have from the voting units.
“It is so sad that the same people who turned Enugu into a theater of war are relentless in their plan to thwart the will of the people, but they will not succeed.
“CUPP calls on all lovers of democracy to stand up and defend the vote. Everyone should go to the neighborhood matching centers and then from there to the local government matching center.
“On the part of the INEC, they should save what little reputation they have left. The Enugu people will not tolerate a repeat of what happened during the presidential and National Assembly elections, where the people’s votes were suppressed.
“We are notifying the military, the NSCDC, other security agencies and the INEC. We have uncovered this plot and it should not happen”, warned CUPP.
Okafor urged the people of Enugu to keep hope alive as no one can trifle with their freely expressed will.
