Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has ordered all banks handling state government accounts to freeze all accounts held at its various banks with immediate effect.
Nwifuru gave the order in a statement signed and made available to journalists in Abakaliki by his chief press secretary, Dr Monday Uzor, on Tuesday.
According to Uzor, a seasoned journalist in the State, the order comes into force as of Tuesday, May 30, 2023.
The Declaration reads: “His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State, the Rt. Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has ordered the immediate freezing of all state government accounts domiciled in various banks from Tuesday 30 May 2023.
“Accordingly, the Governor directs bank managers at all banks that operate government accounts to comply immediately and ensure that no payments are made from any government account until further notice.”
