Google is now rolling out the December 2022 Android security patch to all Pixel devices. This also comes with the December 2022 Feature Drop.
This is the monthly security update that Google sends to its devices and shares with its partners. It includes a number of new features that are only available on Pixel.
In fact, we have already seen this patch being rolled out to other Samsung smartphones, before Google announced the patch. Which is something we’ve seen a lot lately.
What has been fixed in this patch?
Google fixed a bunch of vulnerabilities in the November 2022 security patch for the Pixel and other Android devices.
As usual, Google has not detailed every vulnerability. This is done on purpose so that those who haven’t received the update (which is everyone right now) won’t fall victim to an attack. Listing vulnerabilities is like giving hackers the keys to your device. So this is done to protect everyone. But there are a ton of changes made to Qualcomm and MediaTek devices, as well as vulnerabilities in the Android Runtime and more.
You can check out the security bulletin here to see exactly what Google has fixed with this update for Pixels and Android in general.
This quarterly update also fixes over 170 bugs in the Pixel 7 series. So it’s a pretty big update.
What devices are supported by the December 2022 security patch?
The December 2022 security patch is now rolling out to Pixel devices. And it is compatible with Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.
Verizon versions will launch later this week.
Most smartphones released in the last two to three years will also be supported. However, you will need to wait for the update to be rolled out by your smartphone manufacturer.
Make sure to update your Pixel device as soon as you receive this update and don’t put it off. Security updates are not good to leave for later.
