The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) effectively sealed their playoff spot with a comfortable 27-run win over the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 55th match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) at Chepauk on Wednesday, May 10.
After MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat, the home team managed to put 167 on the board despite no batsman managing to score more than 25 runs. The Super Kings’ spinners then made for a terrific display in the middle overs before Matheesha Pathirana closed out the game in death.
Here are CSK player ratings from IPL 2023 Match 55 against DC.
IPL 2023, CSK vs DC: Pathirana takes 3, spinners apply choke on Chepauk

Ruturaj Gaikwad: 6/10
Gaikwad looked nervous in the middle and went down right after the power play. He should have waited a bit longer before taking the attack on Axar Patelwho was one of DC’s most threatening bowlers on the night.
Devon Conway: 4/10
Like his starting partner, Conway never seemed settled. He survived a couple of close calls before attempting to sweep a ball that was too full to play the shot.
Ajinkya Rahane: 7/10
Rahane rotated strikes well against spinners in conditions where it wasn’t easy to hit. He made 21 runs before being sent back for a stunning reception back from lalit yadav. The experienced cricketer made two sacks and pulled off a crucial breakaway.
Ambati Rayudu: 7/10
Rayudu scored a four and a six on his stroke, both from Lalit’s final over. He has not been in his best moment this season, and that was reflected in the curious sweep that he played Khaleel Ahmed while trying to aim for the shorter limit. The 37-year-old running back made a nice catch from the middle.
Moeen Ali: 7/10
Moeen has been woefully out of touch with the bat in IPL 2023. He struggled during his 12-ball stint in the box, managing just seven runs before being outplayed by Kuldeep Yadav. However, the spinner put in an excellent spell, with his four overs costing just 16 runs.
Shivam Dube: 7/10
Dube’s long levers illuminated Chepauk once more. The tall lefty hammered three sixes in his team’s highest score of 25, though he was soon sacked for mitchell swamp.
Ravindra Jadeja: 8/10
Jadeja was the Man of the Match for his complete show. The left-hander made 21 runs towards the end of CSK’s innings, although he could have stepped on the gas a bit sooner. He conceded just 19 runs in his spell and won Rilee Rossouw.
MS Dhoni: 9/10
Dhoni’s striking ability on the kill was crucial once again. He hit two sixes and a four in the final from Khaleel Ahmed to lead CSK to an above-average total, even though he was really struggling to run between the wickets. The skipper’s captaincy was astute, as always.
Maheesh Theekshana: 5/10
Theekshana has not been at his best in IPL 2023 for CSK. He bowled just two overs against DC despite a considerable bid, conceding 16 runs. The Sri Lankan was decent on the pitch, but not outside of his own game of bowls.
Deepak Chahar: 7/10
Chahar is clearly not in top form yet, but he managed to grab the biggest wickets from DC’s openers. His three overs on the power play went for 28 runs, as he dished out too many short deliveries and giveaways. The fast pitcher made a meal with a catch as he ran back.
Matheesha Pathirana [impact]:8/10
Pathirana was unlucky enough to grant some limits in death. The Sri Lankan fast bowler picked up three wickets for the second game in a row and was quite difficult to handle.
Tushar Deshpande: 6/10
Deshpande had a quiet start at Chepauk. The three overs from CSK’s ever-improving closer went for 18 runs.
