Court annuls Adamawa president’s PDP senatorial candidacy

The Yola Federal High Court has annulled the candidacy of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) for the Adamawa Central Senate elections.

The speaker of the state House of Assembly, Aminu Abbas, had been declared the winner of the bid when the DPP senatorial primaries were held earlier in the year.

The Federal High Court, chaired by Judge Abdulaziz Anka, ruled on Monday that Awwal Tukur’s participation as a political appointee in the primaries invalidated the entire process.

The lawsuit had been filed by one of those who challenged the ticket with the Spokesperson, Abubakar Ibrahim, who blamed the primaries by claiming, in addition to the Awwal Tukur issue, that non-delegates voted during the primaries.

The Court in Monday’s ruling emphasized the involvement of Awwal Tukur, blaming the PDP for not conducting the primaries in accordance with the relevant laws.

The court concluded that the PDP has no candidate for the Adamawa Central Senate elections scheduled for next year.
