Bayelsa: 21-year-old university student found dead in a swimming pool


A level 200 student from the Department of Mathematics at Otuoke Federal University, Bright Akhere, was found dead in a swimming pool at an event center in Otuoke community, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa state.

According to the sources, the 21-year-old student followed his friends to the event center for a swimming exercise on the night of April 24, 2023, but his friends left the pool around 5 p.m. without him.

Furthermore, it was deduced that his friends who are currently on the run made no effort to find out where he was before leaving the event center where his lifeless body was found the night of the following day.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, explained in a statement that “on April 25, 2023, around 8:00 p.m., the Command received a report that a dead body was found floating in a pool at a popular event center in Otuoke. , Ogbia Local Government Area.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the late 21-year-old Bright Akhere, a student in the Department of Mathematics at Otuoke Federal University, was with his friends in the pool the night before, April 24, and the friends came out of the pool around 5:00 p.m. :00 hours.

“A team of operatives visited the place and evacuated the body to the morgue for autopsy. The police are on the trail of the friends who are now on the run. The investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged drowning of the student.”
