She also explained to npr as marriages work on indian culture. “In India, we don’t say arranged marriage… there’s marriage and then love marriage. Marriages are between two families. Both families have their reputations and many millions of dollars at stake. So, the parents guide the children, and [helping] that is the job of a matchmaker.”

“One of the biggest misconceptions is that arranged marriage equals forced marriage,” series creator Smriti Mundhra told NPR. “The beauty of many of our cultural traditions is their elasticity. Yes, the traditional textbook definition of an arranged marriage is that it is arranged by two families. But in this modern age… the idea of arrangement is more about a recognition that marriage affects more than just the two people who decide to get married.”

Season 2 and 3 lovebirds Shital and Niraj are still together! The Edison, New Jersey native found one with the Miami-based oncologist and choreographer. “I feel at home with my parents and my sisters, but I’ve never had that feeling of home with a significant other,” Shital told her SO in season 2. “And then when I met you, I felt at home. home, and I feel safe. Like, home is with you.”
In a confessional, Shital gushed about her partner: “I love him. I love him with all my heart. I love it. I feel so incredibly lucky to have found him because it’s just the love that, like, I’ll never find this kind of love again. I’m really happy”. Shital then talked about how Niraj felt at home, something she had never experienced outside of her own family. “If your home is Miami, then…it’s Miami,” she told him, expressing her desire to start a family and have children. “I’m just grinning from ear to ear,” she gushed in a confession scene. “I love him with all my heart. … I will never find this kind of love again, so I am very happy.” Niraj, for his part, also told the producers that he was “definitely in love” with Shital, something he joked was “cheesy and so true.”
The long-distance relationship had its ups and downs, but they finally took root when Niraj asked Shital to move with him to Miami. The two still share each other’s precious moments on social media and we just can’t get enough of it.
