WASHINGTON (AP) — Hollywood writers strike that is snarling at the television and movie industries has now turned the White House schedule upside down.
An MTV special on mental health that was expected to air Vice President Kamala Harris next week has been postponed, according to his office.
A person familiar with the decision said Harris chose not to travel to the event in the Los Angeles area because it would have been seen as crossing the picket line. That’s a political failure for Democrats who depend on union support.
The person was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity about the decision to postpone MTV’s Mental Health Day of Action Conversation.
President Joe Biden asked for a “fair deal” for writers at a film screening at the White House this week.
“Nights like these are a reminder of the stories and the importance of treating storytellers with the dignity, respect and value they deserve,” Biden said. “I sincerely hope that the Hollywood writers’ strike is resolved and that writers get the fair treatment they deserve as soon as possible.”
