A TokToker captured the moment she discovered a vintage Versace dress in a thrift store and went megaviral as viewers flocked to try and help her identify the model.
On March 5, 28-year-old TikToker Sarah Dunk from Toronto, Canada shared a video with the title, “I have no words.” At the start of the 31-second clip, she could be seen standing by a coat rack in what appeared to be a thrift store as she turned to the camera, pointing to a piece of clothing behind her and saying, “I don’t want to be dramatic, But, that right there, you’re going to go crazy.”
The charge then moved closer to an item, before Dunk took it and held it close to the camera, moving the tag which had a visible price tag of $17.49 Canadian, or $12.72, to reveal a Gianni Versace tag.
In the clip, which received more than 14.6 million views, Dunk could be heard describing the item, which he said he discovered at the Value Village thrift store chain, as “stunning” and “perfect” and placed the hanger over her head to see if the dress would potentially fit her. “Stay tuned, everyone,” he said at the end of the charge.
Dunk, who has more than 41,800 followers. on Tik TokHe frequently posts cheap videos, including trying on items in the store, modifying parts she has bought, and share her economic hauls.
She told Insider that she was filming a different video when she saw the dress. “I checked the label and when I saw what it was, the adrenaline kicked in immediately! That was the moment I clicked record on my phone,” she said in an email exchange.
Dunk added that she was “gobsmacked” by the discovery and knew she was “extremely lucky” as she had “been dreaming of a second-hand find like this” since she began visiting thrift stores in 2014.
More than 1,800 comments were left on the video, as viewers shared their reactions to the find. “I’m surprised someone donated an old Gianni Versace piece,” read one comment that received more than 46,100 likes. “My jaw dropped. It’s not just Versace, it’s VINTAGE Versace. Best find ever!” read another comment that received 41,200 likes.
One viewer suggested that they had tracked down the specific model of the dress, leaving a comment that read, “Gianni Versace S/S 1992 Bustier Lace Bra Sheer Panels Slit Evening Dress Gown,” which received more than 3,300 likes.

On March 8, Dunk shared another tik tok, with an onscreen graphic reading “garment revealed” and showing a more detailed view of the item as she wore it, including shots of the label, hem, and backing. In the caption to the video, which received more than 105,000 views, she wrote, “and just like that the dress is back in the vault aka my closet.”
Dunk told Insider he didn’t know the exact value of the dress, but he referenced a similar article which is currently listed on marketplace website 1stDibs for £8,454.78 Canadian, or $10,012, and said it contacted “a few curators of vintage couture” to find out more about the exact model and whether the straps had been altered. . “No matter the case, I’m really, really happy that I found this dress for under $20,” she said.
Whatever the value, he said he has no plans to sell it. “One of my main savings goals was to save on a couture dress,” she told Insider. “I never could have imagined finding a dress like this at the thrift store and finds like this rarely happen, so I plan on keeping it!”
Dunk added that she would only deliver the item if Donatella Versace called her directly and told her she wanted it.
“Until then, I will continue to test it and tinker with it around the house very, very carefully,” he said.
